The National Airports Office (ONDA) is set to begin a MAD 20.3 million renovation project for Agadir Al Massira airport in December 2022. The 12-month project comes as part of the Urban Development Program for the period 2020-2024, which is currently underway in Agadir.

Project Details:

The ONDA will launch a call for tenders on December 6, 2022, for the MAD 20.3 million renovation work. The project includes the demolition of existing partitions and the extension of the domestic and international boarding areas. The inspection filtering posts and the Border Police (PAF) zone for the arrivals area will also be extended. Other improvements include the addition of check-in counters, benches, and boarding gates, as well as the construction of a building for handling offices and a parking lot for light vehicles.

Renovation Plan:

The renovation plan involves the construction of a new building, various networks such as water, electricity, and sanitation, as well as structural work, waterproofing, and the creation of a steel metal frame. Other work will include plumbing, sanitary facilities, flooring and wall covering, false ceilings, painting, carpentry, electricity, air conditioning, and signage.

Passenger Traffic and Tourism:

Agadir Al Massira airport is ranked third nationally in terms of passenger traffic after Mohammed V in Casablanca and Marrakech Menara. It recorded 1.404 million passengers from January to October 2022. The recovery rate of Agadir Al Massira airport has reached 83% compared to 2019, which is a positive impact on tourism in the region. Before COVID-19, 24 airlines operated 179 weekly frequencies, connecting Agadir to more than 50 international destinations.

The Agadir Al Massira Airport Renovation Project is expected to boost tourism in the region. The airport is the hub of tourism activity in the Agadir destination and its air traffic grew steadily between 2008 and 2018. The renovation project is set to begin in December 2022 and will take 12 months to complete.
